Praying the Daily Office
The Book of Common Prayer
Praying the Anglican liturgy of Morning and Evening Prayer - The Daily Office - has been a steady part of the people of God for many centuries. From ancient times prayers at fixed hours during the day were a rich tradition using a liturgy revolving around the Christian calendar. By the Middle Ages the Liturgy of the Hours had solidified into 8 commonly used “offices” for use during various times of day.
During the English Reformation, Thomas Cranmer and others simplified the basic pattern of the Liturgy of the Hours and with the Daily Offices of The Book of Common Prayer (BCP) brought morning and evening prayer into common parish life.
